Professor Tamás L. Paál, President of the Operative Board at the National Institute of Pharmacy in Hungary (OGYI)
Prof. Tamás L. Paál holds a degree in Pharmacy and Chemical Engineering. After spending eleven years in the Hungarian pharmaceutical industry Prof. Paál joined the National Institute of Pharmacy, the Hungarian competent agency for human medicines. Prof. Paál was Director-General of the Agency for 23 years. Having reached the age of 65 when such appointments expire in Hungary, he performs an advisory role in the capacity of President of the Operative Board to the same Agency. Prof. Paál is also part-time professor at the University of Szeged, Hungary, teaching regulatory affairs and quality assurance.
Professor Tomasz Twardowski, President of the Polish Biotechnology Federation (PFB)
Prof. Tomasz Twardowski is the president of the Polish Biotechnology Federation and a researcher who has spent the last few years promoting the achievements of genetic engineering in Poland. He is also heavily engaged in legal and social issues related to biotechnology, including intellectual property rights, biosafety and social acceptance. He has been conducting research at the PAN Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry in Pozna?? since 1974, and in 1995 also began working at the Technical University of ?ódz's Institute of Technical Biochemistry. He has written more than 70 original experimental papers, in addition to over 100 communiqués, 100-odd overviews, and 150 or so articles. He has authored, co-authored and edited over 30 books. Prof. Twardowski has represented Poland in the work of biotechnology teams set up by the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). He is a member of Poland's Central Commission for Academic Titles and Degrees (1997-2009), and vice-chairman of the Biotechnology Committee (1991-2009).
Professor Ádám Vas, M.D., Ph.D., Senior Research Adviser, Gedeon Richter Plc Budapest, Hungary
Professor Vas holds a degree in medicine and clinical pharmacology. He got his PhD degree in the pharmacogenetic background of hepatic drug metabolism. Dr. Vas is part-time Professor at the Szeged University, I. Department of Medicine teaching clinical pharmacology. He is officer of the European Association for Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics (EACPT), Head of the Scientific-Engineering Committee of the Hungarian Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association, Leader of the Hungarian Innovative Medicines Technological Platform and member of the EU Innovative Medicines Initiative Scientific Committee among other positions.
Theodore Iliopoulos, Vice President of the Management Board, Polpharma
Graduated from the University of Athens as a Chemist and has an impressive thirty seven-year career in Pharmaceutical Operations, first working for 13 years for Greek national companies before joining Bristol Myers Squibb in 1986 in a key Quality Assurance position. He was rapidly promoted in BMS into site management roles and then into multi site responsibilities, first having the European plants reporting to him and finally he was responsible for all BMS plants in the Americas as VP Manufacturing of the Americas. In 2002, after 15 years service with BMS, he joined Polpharma as Chief Operating Officer where he gained a tremendous understanding of the functioning of all aspects of the generic pharmaceutical industry and the health care sector in general in Eastern Europe. In 2004 he moved to Patheon, a leading global contract manufacturing and development services organization, where he spend 2 years as VP Operations Europe before rejoining Polpharma in his previous role. At Polpharma he is responsible for the industrial operations (infrastructure, supply chain, engineering, production) and for the Fine Chemicals Business Unit.
